Media Development

During my tenure as Country Manager for Internews in Tunisia, I led the development of a comprehensive Media Landscape Assessment as part of the USAID-funded Political Transitions Project. Internews is an international non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening independent media, improving access to reliable information, and empowering communities to actively participate in civic life. In this role, I oversaw all aspects of the assignment—from design to delivery—managing a multidisciplinary team and coordinating closely with donors, partners, and national stakeholders.

The assessment was grounded in a rigorous, mixed-methods research approach that combined nationwide surveys, focus groups, in-depth interviews, and extensive fieldwork across all 24 governorates. This human-centered methodology enabled us to capture the complex relationships between information producers and consumers while mapping the legal, regulatory, and financial frameworks shaping Tunisia’s media ecosystem.

In addition to leading the research, I was responsible for overall program management, including budgeting, client relations, and team leadership, ensuring the successful implementation of activities under tight timelines and strategic priorities. The resulting assessment provided an evidence-based analysis of Tunisia’s evolving media landscape, identifying key challenges related to trust, sustainability, misinformation, and inclusion—particularly among underserved groups such as youth, women, and persons with disabilities. Building on these insights, I guided the design of targeted interventions, including capacity-building programs to train journalists and digital content creators in producing credible, engaging, and community-driven information. By translating research findings into actionable programming, the assessment served as a strategic blueprint to strengthen media resilience, enhance information integrity, and support democratic participation in Tunisia.
